West Northumberland Foodbank is a charity based in Hexham, providing a safety net for people in hardship throughout the area. Through the collection and distribution of food donations and other household essentials, alongside support with benefits and debt problems, our aim is to help people get back on their feet. Referrals into our service are made via local care and advice services such as Health Visitors, GPs, Social Prescribers, Social Workers, Citizens Advice and more.

West Northumberland Food Bank works to reduce poverty through:
• Providing free food and household essentials
• Targeting support to address the causes/effects of poverty (e.g. debt, benefit problems and low pay) through signposting, referral and advocacy
• Providing follow-on support to address the consequences of persistent poverty (e.g. social exclusion and poor mental health) through signposting, referral and advocacy to community projects that empower and connect people
• Working with others to reduce poverty.
Who can use this service?
Anyone living in West Northumberland and experiencing poverty can be referred for assistance. We will continue to support households for as long as they need our support. Referrals are made into our service via local care and advice services such as Health Visitors, GPs, Social Prescribers, Social Workers, Citizens Advice and more.
How are services delivered?
We take some details, usually over the phone (although we can operate by email or text message if necessary) and deliveries are made to each area of West Northumberland once per week.
