BRIC Blyth Adult Education Services

Established in 1983, Blyth Resource and Initiative Centre (BRIC) is the only place in Blyth that offers a wide range of free training courses and support services under one roof. Branded as “Simply the best employability support for local people”, BRIC strives to enhance the knowledge and confidence of individuals of all ages and abilities! Courses include: Adult literacy training, functional skills courses, digital skills training, drop-ins and roving IT training.

BRIC Courses & Support Services:

Adult Literacy Training: we offer FREE one-to-one Adut Literacy classes every Wednesday morning to enhance reading and writing skills. Our Tutor's create a supportive and encouraging environment tailored to the unique needs of adult learners. The times are as follows: 9:30am - 10:30am (slot 1), 10:30am - 11:30am (slot 2) & 11:30am - 12:30pm (slot 3.)

Functional Skills Courses: we teach Functional Skills Maths & English up to Level 2 (GCSE equivalent.) All students are expected to attend both classes per week, this frequency ensures steady progress. The days/times are as follows: English - Tuesday & Thursday 9:30am - 12:00pm. Maths - Tuesday & Thursday 12:30pm - 3:00pm. 

Digital Skills Training: our small classes take place every Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. Clients can choose which day (1) out of the three, depending on availability. There is no homework or exams, our training is casual and you can work comfortably at your own pace.

Drop Ins: anyone is welcome to our drop ins to use our computers, whether that be for job searching, job applications or personal use. If more comprehensive help is needed, e.g. CV creation, an appointment is advised on our Tutor assisted days. The days/times are as follows: Monday 9:30am - 3:30pm (all day), Tuesday 9:30am - 12:00pm (Tutor assisted), Wednesday 9:30am - 12:00pm (Tutor assisted), Thursday 9:30am - 12:00pm (Tutor assisted) & Friday 9:30am - 3:30pm (all day.)

Roving IT Training: our Roving IT Tutor is on the move delivering IT training in various locations within Northumberland. The training is tailored to the individual and can be done using their own device or one of ours. Training can include: using digital devices, searching the internet, navigating emails, file management, communicating online, Microsoft Office and more.
