NHCT - Travel Cost Scheme

NHS Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme can help with your travel costs for your hospital appointments. You may be able to claim back travel costs if you meet the criteria listed in the 'Who can use this service?' section. You can claim for the bus or train tickets, taxi fares (subject to terms), fuel for a journey by private vehicle (this is based on a set rate per mile) and parking charges.

To claim back your travel costs on the day of your appointment, you require:

  • Proof that you receive one of the qualifying benefits
  • Your appointment letter or text reminder
  • Your travel receipts / ticket

Please bring this information to the main hospital reception at Alnwick, Berwick and Blyth or the cashiers' office at Hexham (located at urgent care reception), North Tyneside (opposite NVS shop, 8.30am to 4pm) and Wansbeck (at main reception, 9am to 4pm). Please note that these may not always be manned. In this case, you can ring the finance team on 0191 203 1535.

To claim after your appointment you need to complete a HC5(T) Refund claim form. To order a paper copy of the form, call 0300 123 0849.

You have up to 12 weeks to claim back after your appointment. This includes claiming at our cashiers' office or receptions.
