Safe & Resilient Communities (formerly Northumberland Communities Together) is here to keep you safe and well by providing help and connecting you to support in your local community. The team can assist with welfare and financial support, advice to households and care within the community. Please give our friendly team a call or click for a 'call back'. Our telephone lines are open from 9am until 5pm Monday-Friday.
We are currently able to provide assistance to individuals/families in need of emergency fuel vouchers. They must be in fuel crisis (likely to be without supply within the next 48-72 hours), use pre-payment meters, have no means to top-up their supply, have exhausted all of means available (from their own supplier, benefit advances etc.) and have not already received a voucher in the past 12 months. Please provide brief description of circumstances to support referral (eg. how have they come to need support, what assistance is required, energy advice needed?)

The British Red Cross provides wheelchair hire services across the UK. We offer comfortable, safe, and reliable manual wheelchairs whether you’re looking for self-propelled or transit wheelchairs. The wheelchairs are suitable for anyone over the age of 5 and are available in a wide range of sizes, with fitted footrests as standard and free accessories such as leg elevators, cushions, and stump supports available to improve your comfort - subject to availability.
A social prescriber’s role is to help you to address the non-medical issues in your life that may be having an impact on your health and wellbeing. Our main role is to connect you to appropriate forms of support from voluntary and community organisations and sometimes from NHS and other statutory services. Where needed we can work closely with your GP practice and other services involved in your care, in order to best support you.
Harbour works with families and individuals who are affected by abuse from a partner, former partner or other family member. If you or someone you know is being abused or being abusive to others then use our website to learn about the help which is available. We also offer the Preventions Service which helps educate those with abusive behaviours.
Solid Foundations is delivered by a not-for-profit partnership of six voluntary community organisations. For many people there are multiple barriers to employment – such as debt, mental health issues, physical health, disability, literacy, numeracy, addiction, past offending, and self-belief. Solid Foundations helps to address the barriers you may be facing and will provide coaching, guidance and mentoring to support you to access appropriate and necessary services. Please note we currently have a 2 week delay on contacting all referrals (July 2025).
If you are a parent or carer of children or young people between 0-19 years old, or 25 with additional needs - we are here to support you. Our hubs are buzzing with FREE activities for families! We also help families find and get support from different services within your local community. Family Hub staff work with many health professionals to support all aspects of maternity, childhood development and adolescence work; including parenting and relationship packages, home learning programs and financial advice. We also offer online and virtual sessions too.
Restlessminds can support families and young people with confidential, one-to-one online support and signposting. Support can be offered with social emotional mental health needs, barriers to education/employment, SEND (Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities, relationship challenges/conflicts., emotional dysregulation/managing emotions, neurodiversity and many more.

PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide is the UK charity dedicated to the prevention of suicide and the promotion of positive mental health and emotional wellbeing in young people. Our suicide prevention helpline, HOPELINE247, is staffed by trained suicide prevention advisers, who work with young people (aged up to 35) – and anybody concerned for a young person – to help keep them safe from suicide. HOPELINE247 is a free and confidential call, text and email service, available 24/7 everyday of the year (including weekends and bank holidays).
Northumberland Sexual Health Services offer a range of services depending on your needs. We offer appointments and walk ins at our centres in Northumberland, as well as outreach clinics in a variety of venues including health centres and community hubs. Our services include; Contraception appointments and consultations. Treatment and screening of Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) Emergency contraception can prevent an unplanned pregnancy. The C-Card Scheme is free and confidential service offering condoms, Dams and Internal condoms, lube to young people aged 13-24 C-Card is available at a variety of locations.
We are an independent charity that works with carers to offer a wide range of support and information, including links to other services, both statutory and voluntary. We support carers of all ages, including under 18s and our Working for Carers project supports carers looking for education, employment or volunteering information and advice.
Northumberland Safe Haven has recently opened in The Bothy, Ashington, to help people experiencing mental health crisis or distress. Support can be accessed in-person without an appointment, or virtually via phone or video call, 2pm-10pm, 365 days a year. The team will provide a listening ear and can offer support with housing issues, debt, unemployment, relationship issues and social isolation.
Our Employment Hubs support residents in rural Northumberland to look for work, training and volunteering opportunities. Support is tailored to the individual’s needs (whether they are young or old, have physical disabilities, mental health problems or learning disabilities, parental or caring responsibilities etc). We offer careers advice, cv creation, help with job search, making applications, preparing for interviews & improving IT skills. Drop in to meet others in a similar situation in a warm, friendly atmosphere. Hubs are located at Alnwick, Amble, Haltwhistle, Hexham, Morpeth and Prudhoe.
Domestic abuse happens to women, men, straight, lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people. NDAS is here to support anyone affected by any type of domestic violence or abuse. It can happen at any stage in life. It does not just mean physical abuse, and it can involve verbal, psychological, sexual and financial control. We aim to raise awareness within communities and in wider society, to challenge abusive behaviours, tackle stigma and shift norms around violence and abuse.
Citizens Advice Northumberland provides free, confidential and impartial information and advice on a range of issues including money, benefits, housing and employment. We operate our Advice Line service from our purpose-built call centre and have an extensive network of offices across the county offering drop-in advice.
We offer free, confidential, impartial and independent advice for the over 50s, their families, carers and organisations. Our services include our Telephone Advice service and our specialist Welfare Rights Service. For specialist benefit advice work, we can only support people over State Pension age. We are here for you and our information and advice service is free to access.
The Dogs Trust Freedom is a free dog fostering service for people fleeing domestic abuse and going into refuge or emergency accommodation. This is a free service available across the UK and all the dog's expenses are covered by Dogs Trust.
